Here are some quick facts about the Alzheimer Coffee Break® that you should know!
- Coffee Break® is the Alzheimer Society’s annual nationwide event where friends, neighbours, co-workers and customers gather in communities across Canada to raise funds for local Alzheimer Societies.
- Participants at the event make a donation in exchange for a cup of coffee. Buy a coffee cup cut-out or make a donation online in our cyber café.
- Coffee Breaks® are unique to each location and can take place anywhere: retail stores, businesses, care facilities, schools, coffee shops, community centres and in people's homes.
- Coffee Breaks® are a great opportunity for people to get together with family, friends and co-workers. This is important as social interaction appears to have a protective effect against Alzheimer’s disease.
- Approximately $12 million has been raised since the first Coffee Break® in 1996.
- The 2009 Coffee Break® raised more than $1.3 million
- This year, the Alzheimer Society is raising the bar even higher, with a fundraising goal of $1.5 million in honour of the 15th anniversary of Coffee Break.
- The money raised from this event funds essential programs and services for Alzheimer Societies, helping to provide local support, information and education to people with Alzheimer’s disease, families and caregivers.
